Kenya mall attack: 'Terrorists must be defeated'
Kenya's president and his deputy are on trial in The Hague for alleged crimes linked to election violence in 2007, but Deputy President William Ruto has been given permission to return home to deal with the hostage situation at a mall in Nairobi.
Speaking on his arrival back in Kenya, Mr Ruto said: "Terrorism can and must be fought mercilessly and defeated wherever it occurs."
Kenyan security forces have said that they are in the final stages of clearing the Westgate shopping complex as they attempt to bring an end to a three-day siege which has claimed at least 62 lives.
