Mali's Cheick Tidiane Seck on on going solo

Malian star Cheick Tidiane Seck is well-known as a keyboard player, arranger and composer.

His interests range from traditional West African music to jazz, funk and rock, and he has worked with Salif Keita, Fela Kuti, Youssou Ndour, Jimmy Cliff, Joe Zawinul, Carlos Santana, Hank Jones, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Damon Albarn.

As his latest album, Guerrier (Warrior), shows, he is also an impressive multi-instrumentalist. But many of his fans probably do not know that, as a young man, he was also a very talented painter.

The 60-year-old artist spoke to BBC Africa's Manuel Toledo about his extraordinary career.
