Kenya independence: 50 years on - in 60 seconds

Today marks 50 years since Kenya gained independence from Great Britain.

Independence leader Jomo Kenyatta became president to much jubilation and celebrations.

It has been a turbulent half century since then.

His son Uhuru Kenyatta is now president, winning elections in March. He faces charges at the International Criminal Court, but denies organising ethnic violence after the 2007 election.
