Focus on jobs, not inflation says SA's Zwelinzima Vavi
The suspended head of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) Zwelinzima Vavi has told BBC HARDtalk the country's national development plan will not create the jobs it seeks to.
While admitting the the problems identified in the development plan were "spot on", Mr Vavi said the instruments chosen to implement the objectives were wrong.
"I don't agree that a country with a 35% unemployment rate should preoccupy itself with an inflation targeting policy that sets that inflation between 3% and 6%," he said.
He said the government should instead focus on setting targets for employment and reducing poverty and inequality.
