Algerian youth use art as activism

In recent weeks groups of volunteers in several Algerian towns and cities have taken to cleaning and embellishing public spaces, often painting staircases with brightly coloured patterns and pictures.

The volunteers have posted pictures and videos on social media sites, as the idea has spread across the country.

It's a rare example of social and environmental activism in a country where many young people feel politically disconnected and excluded.
