South Africa's 'Madiba bubble has popped' says bishop

The idea that South Africa was a beacon of hope for all of Africa has been an "illusion", a bishop from the Methodist Church of Southern Africa has told Stephen Sackur for BBC HARDtalk on the Road.

"We have lived in this 'Madiba bubble', and the bubble has popped," said Bishop Mike Foster. "There are conversations we should have been having a good decade ago, that we are now going to have to have," he added.

South Africa's former president Nelson Mandela was affectionately known by his clan name, Madiba.

Last month a wave of anti-foreigner violence swept across Durban and Johannesburg in South Africa.

At least seven people died, hundreds were injured and thousands fled for their lives.
