Gunmen shouting Islamic slogans have attacked an international hotel in the Malian capital, Bamako, and taken 170 people hostage.

They arrived in a vehicle early on Friday, firing shots and forced their way inside; one report spoke of gunmen firing in the corridor of the seventh floor.
