Working Lives Gaborone: Poppie Moriana
Poppie Moriana has spent the last 24 years working in Botswana's diamond industry. She joined as a trainee and is now a quality controller at the world's largest rough diamond sorting and valuing operation.
"The first day I came to work I was nervous," she recalls. "I was expecting something glittery (but) I saw just an average stone that one could kick around outside but the minute I started touching diamonds I was like 'wow'."
Ms Moriana spot-checks her team to make sure diamonds are being analysed and sorted correctly.
"It fills me with great pleasure knowing that we are handling Botswana's economy," she says.
