Sunflower farming blooms in Kenya after khat export ban

Khat farmers in Kenya have suffered huge losses in the last few years, due to the Covid pandemic, a diplomatic spat with neighbouring Somalia and bans in many countries. The leaf is chewed as a stimulant and is particularly popular in Somali communities.

Now farmers are turning to sunflowers to supplement their incomes.
