'Afghan rail will change its history and economy'

A train has run for the first time on Afghanistan's only major railway.

Never before has the country had a functioning rail network but a seven-carriage freight train took the 47 mile run from the Uzbekistan border to the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif.

Juan Miranda, the head of the Central and West Asian department at the Asian Development Bank, which funded the $165m (£105m) project, told Radio 5 live Up All Night that the network would "change history".
