Nasheed calls for Maldives elections within 60 days

The deposed president of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, has urged his successor to hand over power and called for elections within 60 days.

Mr Nasheed had reiterated that he was no longer calling for his reinstatement as president, but wanted snap elections to resolve the stand-off.

Rioters have rampaged through the streets of the capital to demand Nasheed's return.
