Afghan president agrees men and women should not mix

Afghanistan's government is facing criticism after welcoming guidance from Muslim clerics that women should not mix with men at school, at work or in other aspects of daily life.

It also says they should not travel without a male relative.

The council's statement was welcomed by the Afghan President Hamid Karzai, but human rights campaigners say it looks like he is trying to placate the Taliban, as the BBC's Orla Guerin reports from Kabul.
