Controversy over Afghanistan's new year celebrations

Persian speaking people around the world have been celebrating their new year - known as Noruz - which fell on March 20th.

Although the two week-festivities are not an Islamic tradition, the majority of countries which celebrate Noruz are Muslim.

This has caused controversy among Afghan Islamic scholars, who insist it has no basis in their religion.
