Protests in Manila over South China Sea shoal

A small rock in the middle of the South China Sea is the centre of a growing diplomatic row between China and the Philippines.

Tension has increased in recent weeks over who controls a group of small uninhabited islands between the two nations.

This week, in what is being seen as a provocative act, a Chinese journalist planted a flag on one of the rocks, prompting thousands of people to take to the streets of the capital, Manila.

Kate McGeown reports.
