Gen Fonseka: Sri Lanka must face war probes

Sri Lanka's best known opposition figure, newly released after two year in jail, says the country must cooperate with any international investigation into alleged war crimes.

He said some Sri Lankan leaders were "hiding their faces" over the conduct of the war, as if they were guilty.

The former Sri Lankan army chief, Sarath Fonseka, was speaking to the BBC's Charles Haviland, in his first international interview since being freed on Monday.

He was first asked if he was grateful to President Mahinda Rajapaksa for freeing him
