Vietnam war: Long Tan memorial erected in Australia

Of all the gruesome conflicts of the Vietnam war, the battle of Long Tan is etched deeply in Australians' memory.

On the 18 August 1966, a few hundred troops fought off thousands of Vietnamese soldiers in torrential rain.

Australian soldiers then returned to erect a cross to all the men who fell there, including the Vietnamese.

Now that cross, the battlefield original, is being displayed in Australia for the first time.
