Fifty five people rescued after Australia asylum boat sinks

Fifty five survivors have been found off the Indonesian coast after a boat sank south-west of Java on Wednesday.

The boat was heading for Australia and was thought to be carrying about 150 migrants when its engine stopped and began taking on water.

A recent increase in boats heading for Australia is thought to be an attempt to smuggle as many people as possible ahead of changes to Australia's immigration policy.

Duncan Kennedy reports.
