Bangladesh deaths as Jamaat protest strike begins

At least seven people have died in clashes in Bangladesh at the start of a strike called over a death sentence given to an Islamist party leader.

The walk out was called by leaders of the Islamist party, Jamaat-e-Islami, in protest at the sentencing to death of one of its senior officials over abuses during the war of independence from Pakistan in 1971.

Anbarasan Ethirajan reports from Chittagong.
