Era of free press dawns in Burma

People in Burma will have a choice of daily newspapers for the first time in 50 years from 1 April.

Under the reforms introduced by the elected government, the state monopoly on newspapers will end. Sixteen papers have already been given licences to publish.

The liberalisation of the media coincides with the first anniversary of the election of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi to parliament.
