Bangladesh factory collapse: Retailer calls for government action

The Bangladesh government must do more to improve its clothes manufacturing industry, according to one UK-based company.

The collapse of the clothing factory complex outside Dhaka which left at least 427 people dead has put the industry under the spotlight, but it is rare for Western retailers who use Bangladesh to source cheap clothes to speak publicly.

Stefan Strandlund, Bangladesh country manager for Wilson Imports, said retails could do more to improve standards but questioned if consumers would be prepared to pay more.

He told Andrew North that it was important for the government to take action.
