Afghan birds at risk from hunters

Large numbers of migratory birds are being killed in Afghanistan every year as more people take up the centuries-old pastime of bird-hunting, environmentalists have warned.

A ban introduced by presidential decree in 2008 is barely enforced and the law is yet to go through parliament.

The captured birds are often sold as pets - or for their meat.
