Bangladesh sees clashes over war crimes sentence

Clashes have broken out during a two-day nationwide strike in Bangladesh, a day after an Islamist leader was sentenced to death for war crimes.

Abdul Kader Mullah was sentenced to death on Tuesday for war crimes during the 1971 war of independence with Pakistan.

His party Jamaat-e-Islami called for the strikes, describing the trial as politically motivated.

The BBC's Anbarasan Ethirajan in Dhaka, said Mullah's original sentencing in February had sparked protests because it was seen as too lenient.
