Attack on Kashmir police and army

Several people have been killed in Indian-administered Kashmir when suspected militants in army uniforms attacked a police post.

The incident took place in Kathua district, barely a mile away from the de facto border with Pakistan.

The militants then attacked an army camp in neighbouring Samba district where they are engaged in a gun battle.

Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister for Jammu and Kashmir, said the attacks were aimed at derailing the proposed dialogue between India and Pakistan.

"I think it would be a grave injustice to all those brave people who lost their lives today, if those sacrifices only result in the dialogue process being derailed," he added.
