Thailand should call off election, says electoral commission

The electoral commission in Thailand has urged the government not to hold a poll in February because it says the risk of violence against candidates is too high.

A police officer was killed earlier in clashes with protesters trying to stop parties registering for the poll.

The BBC's Jonathan Head in Bangkok says the group who tried to disrupt election registration efforts are a hardcore group determined to use everything they can to stop the election.
