New Zealand quake fells airport Hobbit eagle sculpture

People in the city of Wellington have described the moment a 6.3 magnitude earthquake rattled New Zealand's North Island.

The quake struck 38km (24 miles) north-east of Masterton at 15:52 local time (02:52 GMT) with no reports of major damage or serious injury.

Passengers at Wellington Airport had a lucky escape when a large eagle sculpture - one of two used to promote the Hobbit films - fell from its position suspended from the airport roof.
