Melbourne: Mother's tribute after father kills son with cricket bat

An 11-year-old boy has been killed by his father after playing cricket at a sports field near Melbourne in Australia.

Witnesses, who included other parents and children, say Luke Batty was attacked by his father with a cricket bat. The schoolboy died at the scene.

Greg Anderson was shot by police who tried to detain him and died later in hospital.

It has emerged Mr Anderson had a long history of mental illness.

Luke's mother Rosie, who is originally from England, spoke to the media, as did Victoria Police.
