Java volcano: Yogyakarta locals urged to stay indoors

A volcano has erupted in east Java spewing ash and debris over a large area and tens of thousands of Indonesians have fled their homes.

The Borobudur temple has been partially covered with plastic sheets to protect it from volcanic ash.

Residents in the city of Yogyakarta have been warned to stay indoors because of the ash - the city is about 280km (173 miles) away from Mount Kelud,

Francisca Maria, from Yogyakarta, told BBC News she and her family are wearing masks inside her home.
