Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has thanked the international teams searching for the missing Malaysia Airlines plane.

The Beijing-bound plane disappeared on 8 March with 239 people on board.

Mr Abbott praised Malaysia's efforts in searching for the missing Boeing 777 while on a visit to the RAAF Pearce airbase, north of Perth.
