Polio: Pakistan hopes to eradicate the disease by 2015

Over 80% of the globe's polio cases come from Pakistan and a strain of the virus found in Egypt and Syria has been traced back to the country.

This year 220 children in the country have contracted polio, the highest figure since 1999.

Pakistan's Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, has promised to step up efforts to combat the crippling disease.

The BBC's Amber Shamsi spoke to the government's polio figurehead, Ayesha Farooq, about the challenges the Taliban present in eradicating the virus and why Pakistan hopes to be polio free by 2015.
