The former Soviet soldier who works at Afghan Jihad museum

The Soviet forces invaded Afghanistan in 1979 but had to pull out 10 years later, largely defeated.

One of their soldiers, a former KGB officer by the name of Khakimov Bakhrodin never returned.

He was wounded in battle and captured by the Afghan Mujahedeen.

For more than 30 years, his family thought he was dead. But the former soldier had decided to stay in Afghanistan, adopting a new identity and a new name - Sheikh Abdullah.

Today he lives in the western city of Herat and works as a guide at the city's Jihad Museum.

Sheikh Abdullah showed BBC News around the museum and explained why he had decided to stay behind in Afghanistan.
