Powerful Typhoon Soudelor batters China

At least nine people have died in south-eastern China after a powerful typhoon caused floods and mudslides.

Thousands were evacuated and millions of homes left without power as Typhoon Soudelor barrelled through Fujian and Zhejiang provinces on Saturday.

One coastal area saw more than 50cm (20 inches) of rain in 24 hours, the heaviest for a century.

Ben Bland reports.
