Myanmar: Life in Kokang a year on from conflict

It is a year since a conflict broke out in Kokang, a small piece of Burmese territory that borders China.

The war between ethnic Chinese rebels and the Burmese army was one of the bloodiest in recent years.

After four months the rebels were driven back into China but the war had broader ramifications. The refusal of the Burmese army to negotiate with the Kokang rebels became a major sticking point in efforts to achieve a nationwide peace agreement.

Throughout the conflict Kokang has been tightly controlled and hard to access.
