Cambodia will see democratic change says opposition leader

A democratic change will take place in Cambodia at the country's next elections, the opposition leader Sam Rainsy has told BBC HARDtalk's Sarah Montague.

"I think everything has an end," said Mr Rainsy, "I think the Cambodian people deserve a better leadership."

Mr Rainsy also called for the international community to ensure there is a "peaceful and democratic election process".

Prime Minister Hun Sen has led Cambodia for more than 30 years and is credited with helping to achieve economic growth after the devastation caused by the Khmer Rouge regime.

But the prime minister is also seen by some as an increasingly authoritarian figure.

Mr Rainsy is currently in self-imposed exile and is living in Europe.
