Chinese incomes 'to double in next decade' - Hu Jintao
Economic development will continue to be central to China's Commuinist Party, according to the country's outgoing president.
Hu Jintao was opening the party's congress in Beijing where the Party's next leader is set to be announced on 15 November.
Mr Hu also called for an end to corruption, saying the issue "could prove fatal to the party".
China faced unprecedented opportunities and challenges, he said, and the nation should "aim higher and work harder", as he claimed that incomes were set to double in the next decade.
