India elections: Why Tamil Nadu vote is crucial

One of the biggest days of voting in the Indian election has begun, with 117 parliamentary seats up for grabs.

Polls will open across 12 states and territories, from parts of Indian-administered Kashmir in the north, to the business hub Mumbai and further south to the politically crucial state of Tamil Nadu.
