Photographing India's dead by the sacred River Ganges

Each year thousands of Hindus take their dead relatives to the holy city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, to be cremated by the River Ganges.

Many grieving families have photographs taken of their loved ones in the moments before the funeral rite as a way to preserve their memory.
