Kashmir: India troops use 'excessive force'

About 1,000 people are being treated for injuries after clashes between pro-separatist protesters and security forces in Indian-administered Kashmir, following the death of a popular militant.

State authorities have said they will investigate charges that security forces used excessive force in quelling the civilian protests.

Allegations that the forces are trigger happy in the region have been a common criticism for years.
