Hundreds go home after Burma clashes
Burmese troops are said to have pushed back the rebels and stabilised the situation in the town of Myawaddy, close to the Thai border which came under attack on Sunday by protesters.
The first election in Burma in 20 years sparked fierce fighting in the east of the country between ethnic Karen rebels and government forces, driving an estimated 20,000 people across the border into Thailand.
Thai officials at the border have declared the northern area of Myawaddy as safe and hundreds of Burmese are making their way home.
But thousands more remain in the emergency shelters set up in the Thai border town of Mae Sot.
