New Zealand mine chief confirms miner 'felt explosion'

Twenty-seven miners are missing after an explosion at a remote coal mine in New Zealand.

Ambulances and helicopters have arrived at the the Pike River mine, about 50km (31 miles) north-east of Greymouth on the South Island. Members of the missing miners' families are also there.

Peter Whittall, Pike River Coal mine chief, said that two miners had emerged following the incident, one of whom spoke about feeling the explosion.
