New Zealand mine still not safe for rescue effort
It is still not safe to enter the New Zealand mine where 29 workers are trapped underground, rescuers say.
More than two days after an explosion at the Pike River mine, a fire is still burning beneath the surface, officials say, and high levels of poisonous gases have been detected.
Superintendent Gary Knowles, who is in charge of the rescue operation, told a news conference he remained focused on bringing the miners out.
