Thousands leave homes as floodwaters arrive in Brisbane

Up to 40,000 homes are now at risk in Brisbane as deadly floodwaters surge towards Australia's third-largest city.

The floods are not expected to peak in the city until tomorrow.

Much of Brisbane is a ghost town, with electricity cut and thousands urged to either evacuate or stay at home.

Boats, caravans and even a beer garden have been seen being swept through the city by its swollen river.
