Power reconnected to stricken Japanese nuclear reactors
In Japan, power lines have been reconnected to all six reactors at the stricken Fukushima plant.
It is a significant step but more work is needed before electricity can run through them again and start cooling the leaking reactors.
Meanwhile, the number of people who are dead or missing after the earthquake and tsunami has now topped more than 21,000.
The BBC's Roland Buerk reports from north-eastern Japan.
