China tests new high-speed bullet train

China has conducted a test of a new fast train which has a top speed of 350 km (220 miles) per hour.

The bullet train will travel between Beijing and Shanghai, covering the 1,318 km (824 mile) route in around five hours.

It its part of a planned nationwide high-speed network which has sparked controversy with some saying it is too expensive and dangerously fast.

The government subsequently reduced the top speed to 190 mph (306 kph) and ticket prices have also fallen.
