Distraught North Koreans cry over Kim Jong-il's death
North Korea has announced the death of Kim Jong-il, who led the communist nation since the death of his father in 1994.
Meanwhile, footage has emerged that shows North Koreans on the streets of Pyongyang and elsewhere weeping as they heard of their leader's passing.
The BBC's Lucy Williamson in Seoul said that the news seemed to have taken people by surprise.
