Hand-made: Creating the perfect pair of boots

Meticulously sewing kangaroo leather with a pig's bristle and a hand-rolled thread are just some of the traditional methods Duncan McHarg uses to create the perfect boot.

By using techniques dating back to the Middle Ages, Duncan is able to make a pair of shoes he says will last indefinitely.

A pair of his bespoke boots can take him weeks, if not months, to make and can cost anywhere between A$1,000 and A$10,000 ($7,100/£4,600).

In the second of a series looking at people who make things by hand in time-honoured ways, BBC News met Duncan at his workshop in the old Victorian gold-mining town of Clunes.
