Ally urges Irish general election

The Irish Government has lost the support of its coalition partner and a general election in January is now looking increasingly likely.

It follows the Irish decision to accept a massive bail-out from the European Union and the International Monetary Fund, as well as a loan from the UK.

Meanwhile, there have been angry scenes outside the Irish Finance Ministry as protesters attacked the government's handling of the economy.
