EU foreign affairs chief on Libya violence
The EU foreign affairs chief, Baroness Ashton, has told Euro MPs that those responsible for violence in Libya must be held accountable.
She was speaking at a debate in Strasbourg in which MEPs heard calls for a no-fly zone and for opening borders to refugees.
Lady Ashton said all 27 members of the EU decided last week to freeze the assets of Col Muammar Gaddafi and 26 other Libyans and impose a visa ban on them with immediate effect.
"Once we get an end to the violence we have to work to to support the emergence of a new Libya," she said.
