Irish racehorses led to slaughter as recession bites

This week, thousands of racegoers have flocked to the Cheltenham Festival, the highlight of the year for jump racing.

The meeting always attracts a huge Irish contingent, but the racing industry in Ireland has seen better days.

An increasing number of racehorses bred at the height of the economic boom are having to be sent for slaughter.
