Berlusconi's plan to 'free Lampedusa'

The Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has visited the island of Lampedusa and promised residents that thousands of refugees who have fled the fighting in North Africa will be removed.

Some 6,000 migrants - more than the total population of the island - are now living there in makeshift camps and officials say sanitary conditions have become "desperate".
