Merkel and Sarkozy urge new rescue package for Greece

The leaders of Germany and France have said they want a new rescue package for debt-laden Greece to be agreed as soon as possible.

But Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy also said they were united that any private sector involvement should be voluntary rather than compulsory.

Meanwhile, Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou has changed his finance minister in an attempt to push through unpopular austerity measures demanded by the EU.
